General FAQs

Below you will find our most commonly asked, general FAQs.

When should we arrive?

Check your confirmation email for arrival details.

Do we need reservations?

While reservations are strongly suggested, walk-ins are always welcome.  Advanced reservations are always beneficial because many of our adventures have limited capacity.

How do we get there?

Lakota Guides is located on Metcalf Road in Avon.  Please be aware, many of our activities depart from our satellite locations; please double check your confirmation email for the correct location and directions.  Feel free to call us at 970-845-7238 if you have trouble finding us.

Who can go on these trips?

Most trips are available to anyone, but guests under eighteen years of age not accompanied by their parent or legal guardian must bring our release form signed by their parent or legal guardian to the office. Our release form can be downloaded from the website or we can email /mail you a copy.  Some of our adventures may not be suitable for young children. Please do not hesitate to contact our knowledgeable staff with any questions you may have regarding your child’s participation.  Children must be at least thirty pounds to participate in our family float trips.

What should we know about weather, altitude, and the terrain?

While we can’t guarantee sunny days for every trip, our experienced guides and top-of-the-line gear will ensure that you have a phenomenal trip, rain or shine (wetsuits, splash jackets, and booties are included in the price of your trip if they are needed). In the case of truly inclement weather, where we feel the quality of the trip will be compromised, we will the cancel the trip and either reschedule or offer you a refund. We will give you as much notice as we can in the event of a cancellation.

What special gear or clothing is needed?

Perhaps one of the most often asked and hardest to answer question is, “What do we bring”? Each type of activity is different, and you will receive a recommended gear list in your confirmation email, or feel free to give us a call and we can walk you though it.  For the most part, you won’t need anything special, just dress appropriately for the weather, and try your best to have appropriate shoes for your activity. Closed toed shoes are required for our horseback riding adventures.

On the spring and fall river trips, or if the weather is a little cold, we may suggest that you wear a wetsuit and/or splash jacket while on the river. All river equipment is included in the cost of your trip. When going on any of our water adventures, please don’t forget to bring a change of dry clothing and footwear for your trip home!

Do we need to tip?

Tips are accepted and appreciated, but not required.  Guides are adequately compensated, but the difference between a good adventure and a great adventure is frequently the guide. If you are inclined to tip, a good reference is similar to how you would tip in a restaurant.

How do we arrange for a custom or private trip?

Family reunions, bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate retreats, group reunions, organizational outings, family vacations, and other special occasions often need customized adventures.  Please contact us and tell us your thoughts and adventure desires. We are excited to help you plan your next custom trip, and will be sure to have many great ideas to help you along the way! Private adventures can be arranged with advanced reservations.  Please call our office for more details if our general FAQs don’t answer all of your questions. (970)-945-7529.

Can we bring pets?

For your pet’s safety and happiness, please make arrangements to leave them at home or with someone that can provide for their welfare. We do not have the facilities to safely accommodate pets.
